This class will draw from Circus and Vaudeville, taking the student on a journey connecting with your inner Clown. MEET THE TOURING ARTISTS
Karen Bell
Karen Bell has a forty-year-long career as a Professional Circus Clown and is the only female clown with a solo-ring gag for Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® circus. Karen has toured the world, clowning with Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® and the Department of Defense. Since 2005, she has worked with The Circus Arts Conservatory developing original and creative group programs for the Humor Therapy programs in local nursing homes and hospitals. She currently serves as the Outreach Education Manager with the Circus Arts Conservatory, where she is instrumental in creating a curriculum-based education program for The Circus Arts Conservatory and teaches local students STEAM lessons through the lens of the circus, with a focus on physics. She collaborates with the University of South Florida Center for Partnerships in Arts-Integrated Teaching (PAInT), creating and implementing arts-integrated lessons. Karen has presented alongside Rowlett Middle Academy science teacher Rebekka Stasny at the National Science Teaching Association National Conference.
Ronald Hoffman
Ronald J. Hoffman received his Theatre Arts degree from North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota, where he performed with Orchisis Dance Company and The Little Country Theatre. After moving to New York City, he danced professionally with The Humphrey Dance Ensemble and the Harbor Island Dance Theatre. Ronald attended Ringling Brothers & Barnum and Bailey® Clown College and toured with the Ringling Brothers & Barnum and Bailey® circus for two years as a Clown and Physical Comedian. He has performed with The Big Apple Circus Clown Care, Hudson Vagabond Puppets, Two Left Feet Dancing Duo, Concrete Canyon Cloggers, and on film and television. He has also performed internationally in China, Mexico, Scotland, and South America. Ronald holds a Dance Teacher Certificate from City Center’s Teaching Artist Training Program and a Gold Medal in the Cultural and Arts Events of the 1994 Unity Games.
